Residents to the Rescue!

PALM BEACH GARDENS, FL.  Recently, several floors at Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center (PBGMC) were short of Patient Care Techs.  The Versant Residents heard about the problem and offered to work as PCTs for the morning.  They changed into scrubs and demonstrated what teamwork is all about.  They were finished by Noon, and though they were exhausted, all had smiles on their faces.

In other news, PBGMC is collaborating with Baptist

Health South Florida to

implement the "married state preceptor" concept starting

with the August 2010 Cohort.  "We are very thankful for the help that Solimar Figueroa and her team have given us" said

Deb Hilliard White, RN, Versant RN Residency Manager.

Graduation Ceremony at Baptist Health South Florida

Excerpt from a speech by Kiley Martinez, RN.

My name is Kiley Martinez and I am a graduate from the eighth cohort as well   as a proud nurse on 2Tower.First and foremost, I would like to begin by thanking (on behalf of all the "Versants") all of you for our successful achievement in the Residency Program. We owe it to all of  you for our accomplishments: Marjorie, Solimar, Jesse, Suzy, all of our mentors, debriefers, instructors, staff members, clinicians, managers and most importantly - our preceptors.Without the guidance of our preceptors we would not have been able to succeed.

You, as preceptors, are the main reason why we, as new nurses, are standing on our units with so much confidence and readiness to hit the real world of nursing. We feel nervous and anxious but at the same time, well prepared and with the knowledge to handle whatever situation comes our way.Sure it is very nerve racking to know that we don't have you all by our side but we know that you have prepared us well enough to overcome many obstacles and taught us that when in doubt: just ask!I was blessed to have such a wonderful preceptor and now I'm proud to say that I have gained a new friend and mentor, and I'm sure that many of the new nurses feel the same way.

On behalf of all of the cohorts, we would like to thank all of the preceptors for their time, patience, empathy, and lack of sleep (due to clocking out late because we caused you to run behind schedule).Without you, this would not be possible.I am very thankful for the Versant RN Residency.I know that many other hospitals throw their young to the wolves and expect them to figure out how to survive.Hopefully this Versant Program has impacted all new nurses and made them think of ways to contribute and maybe even become preceptors for upcoming cohorts.Once again we thank you all for your dedication and passion to teaching.I wish you all the best in your future endeavors and in your career in nursing.
